A globally recognised design practice is shaping the interiors of ELLE Resort Bali.

Founded by Sir Terence Conran in 1989, Conran and Partners brings more than three decades of international architecture and interior design experience to ELLE Resort & Beach Club Bali. Appointed as interior designer for the resort, the studio will shape its guest rooms, suites and shared spaces, bringing ELLE's French design identity into a contemporary Balinese setting.

01 · The practice

British design heritage. Global hospitality experience.

Founded by Sir Terence Conran in 1989, Conran and Partners has built an international reputation across architecture and interior design from its studios in London and Hong Kong. Its work is grounded in a principle that has defined the practice from the beginning: good design should improve the quality of people's lives.

Its portfolio moves across hotels, resorts, restaurants, residences, workplaces and retail. Architecture and interiors sit within the same practice, allowing its teams to think beyond individual rooms and shape the complete experience, from spatial planning and circulation to furniture, materials and the smallest details.

There is no fixed Conran look. Each project responds to its location, its purpose and the people who will use it. The result is design that feels contemporary and distinctive without losing its connection to place.

A design philosophy that has endured

Sir Terence Conran changed the way design entered everyday life, and the practice he founded continues to place people at the centre of the design process. In hospitality, that thinking reaches every part of the guest journey, from arrival and movement through a property to the way a room feels, functions and is remembered.

Today, the practice is chaired by Sebastian Conran, who continues that focus by encouraging the partners to challenge assumptions and keep the end user central to the design process.

02 · The design

ELLE's French design identity, reinterpreted for Bali.

Conran and Partners' concept brings together three distinct influences: ELLE's French design heritage, Bali's natural character and the expectations of a contemporary beachfront resort. The aim is not to reproduce Paris in Bali, but to create an interior language that belongs to both the brand and the destination.

01

Translating ELLE into a place

ELLE has shaped fashion, interiors and lifestyle for more than 80 years. For the brand's first beach resort, Conran and Partners' role is to translate that editorial identity into a physical guest experience across the resort interiors.

02

Parisian chic, balanced with Balinese softness

The concept brings together ELLE's French art de vivre with Bali's natural textures, craft traditions and relaxed material palette, creating a clear dialogue between the brand and the destination.

03

Designed for Bali's climate

Climate-responsive design forms part of the concept from the start. In Seminyak, that means considering shade, airflow, humidity, salt air and material durability as part of the interior specification.

04

Local materials and craftsmanship

The design approach incorporates local materials, artisanal craftsmanship and a close relationship with the landscape. Conran and Partners has previous hospitality experience in Indonesia through Park Hyatt Jakarta.

05

Calm, expressive and welcoming

The interiors are intended to feel calm yet expressive, elegant yet welcoming, reflecting the contrast between relaxed resort living and the social character of Seminyak.

06

Designed together with the architecture

Conran and Partners' interior work develops alongside Inspiral Architects' architecture so the spaces, materials and guest experience can be considered as one coherent resort environment.

03 · How they work

A design process built around place, guest experience and detail.

Conran and Partners begins with research into the site, local context, cultural influences and intended guest. From there, the team develops a design narrative that guides spatial planning, materials, lighting, furniture and detailing through to delivery.

Zone 01

Private space

Guest rooms and suites, where comfort, function and material quality are experienced at close range throughout the day.

Zone 02

Transitional space

Corridors, lift lobbies and thresholds, designed as part of the guest journey rather than treated only as circulation.

Zone 03

Public space

Arrival areas, restaurants, bars and shared spaces, where the resort's identity becomes most visible and social.

The five stages they run

Stage 01 of 5

Immersion

The stage most practices skip. Before anything is drawn, Conran research the site, the local area and the competition, and settle who the guest actually is. On a Seminyak resort that means understanding a beach that already has an opinion about itself.

Experience across the spaces a resort brings together

Conran and Partners groups its work across five markets: live, stay, eat and drink, work and shop. A resort brings several of these together in one destination, from accommodation and dining to wellness, retail and shared spaces. That cross-sector experience helps the studio design different functions under one coherent identity.

Sustainability within the wider design approach

The practice's credentials reference research and experience across material efficiency, modular construction, cross-laminated timber, recycled materials and recognised building frameworks. No sustainability rating or target is currently claimed for ELLE Resort on this page. Within the team, Nick Edler is a certified Passivhaus Designer and Hillia Lee is a BEAM Professional and registered architect in Hong Kong.

02

The scope is clearly defined

Conran and Partners is responsible for the resort interiors. The ELLE Beach Club and its suites are assigned to Tristan du Plessis Studio under a separate design scope.

03

Hospitality experience already established in Indonesia

Tina Norden leads ELLE Resort after leading Park Hyatt Jakarta and Park Hyatt Changsha, which was named Project of the Year for Hotel Interiors at the 2025 MIX Interiors Awards.

05

Design involvement continues through delivery

The practice's published process includes design realisation, covering construction monitoring, site inspections and styling review through to handover.

06

Cross-sector experience suits a resort environment

A resort combines accommodation, dining, wellness, retail and shared spaces. Conran and Partners works across these sectors and brings architecture and interior design expertise together within the same practice.
