About Inspiral

A Bali-Based Studio Built Around Hospitality Design

Inspiral takes its name from physics, where two stars spiral together and release enormous energy. The studio uses this as a metaphor for its design process, bringing client and architect together around a shared vision focused on design excellence, sustainability and quality of life.

Blending Eastern and Western influences, traditional and contemporary thinking, and local and international experience, Inspiral has delivered projects across Southeast Asia and the United Kingdom.

Its integrated approach brings architecture, structural design and interiors together from the earliest stages, creating more coordinated buildings and guest experiences.

Based in a green office of its own design in Sanur, Inspiral also works with a network of sustainability specialists across smart systems, water filtration and renewable energy.

Lead Architect for ELLE Resort & Beach Club

Geonet appointed Inspiral as lead architect for ELLE Resort & Beach Club Bali. The practice is responsible for the architectural vision behind the resort's organic forms, flowing rooflines and natural material palette.

Inspiral also features the project within its own hospitality portfolio as ELLE Beach Club and Resort, outlining the concept, masterplan and design direction for the resort, residences and beach club.

Designing the experience from the ground up

The architect shapes how the entire destination functions. This includes the arrangement of the buildings, the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces, the location of pools and hospitality venues, access to natural light, coastal views and the materials used throughout the development.

Inspiral leads the architectural design. Colliers provides independent project management and oversees how the project is delivered.

The Architectural Vision

A Resort Shaped by the Coast

Inspiral's design brings together hospitality, entertainment and relaxation within a connected beachfront destination. The architecture responds to the coastline through sweeping forms, open views, natural materials and spaces designed around the tropical environment.

The masterplan is organised around three main zones. The resort is positioned to maximise elevated ocean views. The residences are oriented towards landscaped gardens and pools. The beach club becomes the active beachfront centre of the development, and is planned as the first phase to open. Existing mature trees are retained where possible and incorporated into the wider landscape design.

A sweeping organic roofline helps soften the scale of the resort and connect the building with its coastal setting. A large central pool creates space for swimming, relaxing and socialising throughout the day, while a private collection of two-level beach club suites sits within landscaped surroundings, using rounded forms, natural materials and detailed latticework.

The beach club forms the social centre. A sculptural canopy extends across the venue, taking visual cues from the movement of the sea. Lagoon-style pools, a poolside bar, open-air dining and an upper-level air-conditioned lounge create different experiences across the day and evening.

The Inspiral Approach

Design That Responds to People, Place and Purpose

Inspiral holds that it would be too rigid to believe there is a fixed formula for good architecture, because every project differs and every site is its own setting. What the practice carries between projects is a method rather than a style: understand the client, read the site, and let the building follow from both.

Its buildings are worked out through orientation, natural ventilation, thermal mass and shading before they reach for technology, and its material thinking runs to rammed earth, locally harvested bamboo, recycled timbers, water reuse and on-site renewable energy where the site supports them.

Client-Led Design

Inspiral begins by working through the client's aspirations and the thinking behind them, so that the design answers the brief rather than restates it. The practice deliberately keeps that approach adaptable, which is what leaves room to reach the best solution as the project develops.

The People Behind the Design

A Bali Team Across Architecture, Engineering and Interiors

Inspiral describes a team of mindful and creative individuals from varying professional backgrounds, sharing ideas and knowledge in an open and equal working environment. The studio holds that this is what lets creativity flourish, and what makes it effective at finding practical and efficient solutions.

Three directors lead the practice, supported by 27 team members across architecture, structural engineering, interior design and administration.

Of both British and Chinese heritage, a qualified RIBA architect and a graduate of The Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London. At Inspiral he leads a collective of architects, engineers and artisans, working through a research-driven methodology and bio-responsive construction. His expertise spans SIP technology, prefabrication, earth building, bamboo and composite eco-materials, and his ecological design approach has drawn regional recognition, international publication and the UNESCO Prix Versailles for Sustainability. He speaks internationally on ecological innovation and the future of architecture.

A senior architect working towards original, sustainable and responsible design solutions. A graduate of ITENAS and a registered member of Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia, she brings architectural and engineering experience from established Bandung practices, including detailed design and project leadership at A2kreasitama. Her portfolio covers award-winning residential, hospitality, convention and mixed-use projects. At Inspiral she leads project implementation, managing drawings, schedules, coordination and site inspections.

As Lead Senior Architect for Detail Design and Construction she specialises in bamboo architecture, and has played a central role in the design and coordination of Ulaman Eco Luxury Resort and Luna Beach Club.
