Tourist hotspots around the world are reopening at record speed. After two years of isolation, travelers are eager to scratch the travel itch and Indonesia’s Bali is a destination high on their lists.

Travelers flocked to Bali as soon as Indonesia loosened border controls. Airbnb released its 2022 Winter Update in November, revealing that Bali is the most searched destination by users of this accommodation-sharing platform around the world. With its pristine beaches, rich culture, and bustling nightlife scene, it's easy to see why Bali is such a popular destination for travelers from all over the world.

Bali's vital tourism sector also has been in the spotlight recently, with the G-20 summit taking place on the island in November. Hundreds of world leaders and other dignitaries travelled to Bali, drawing attention to the island and causing a surge in tourism.

To help continue this growth, Indonesia has rolled out a new long-term stay and investment program also known as the "second home visa." This program is due to take effect in December, and will provide special visas for foreign nationals with at least AU$192,577 in the bank the right to work and stay within its borders. The goal of the program is to attract high-net-worth individuals and investors to Indonesia and to help boost the island's economy.

As the demand for housing and accommodations in Bali has increased over time, so too has the price of real estate. Land and house values had a significant increase as well. Seemingly overnight, Bali became Southeast Asia’s real estate hotspot and investors are taking note.

The rapid rise in real estate prices in Bali has reached international headlines ([object Object]), leading many investors to seek out opportunities to buy land and property. On top of this, the rising cost of living on the island means that many residents have also looked into investing in real estate as a way to secure their financial future. As a result, there has been a huge demand for investment property and land in Bali, with a wide selection of options available to suit all kinds of investors.

And it’s only the beginning. Those who want to capitalize on this tourist boom are snapping up properties left and right. Indonesia has made it easier for foreigners to own real estate in the country through Government Regulation 18 of 2021 (GR 18/2021). It gives foreigners the right to buy and permanently own land and apartments in the country.

Indonesia is serious about attracting tourists and is dangling these hefty incentives to boost business and lure in foreign capital. The once-understated nation is stepping up and quietly transitioning into a major player in Asia thanks to investor-friendly policies and public infrastructure and development programs.
