Bali Set to Break Ground on "Full Underground" LRT Project in September 2024
Bali is taking a significant step towards modernising its transport network with the construction of its Light Rail Transit (LRT) system. With groundbreaking planned for September 2024, the project aims to alleviate the island's notorious traffic congestion, enhance connectivity, and elevate the tourism experience.

Phase 1A: Connecting Airport to Sunset Road
The initial phase, Phase 1A, will prioritise connecting I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to the bustling tourist hub of Sunset Road, covering a distance of 6.3 kilometres. Notably, this phase will be built entirely underground and will include five stations: I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Kuta, Pura Desa Adat, Central Park, and Sunset Road. This strategic route is expected to provide much-needed relief for travellers and locals alike, who often face long delays due to heavy traffic.

Feasibility Study and Funding
A comprehensive feasibility study (FS) conducted by Korea National Railway (KNR), funded by the Korea Exim Bank, is nearing completion and is expected to provide valuable insights for the project's implementation. Phase 1 of the project is estimated to cost AU$1.3 billion. The funding for the project will be sourced through various options, including public-private partnerships (KPBU).
Addressing Congestion and Boosting Tourism
Bali's booming tourism industry has led to a significant increase in traffic congestion, particularly in areas like Kuta and Canggu.
